Lionel Messi was about as good a year as the world’s fifth best player could. This year the Argentinean won La Liga and the Copa del Rey with Barcelona, although this hardly explains their domestic dominance.
Barcelona only lost once last season in Spain, and that was after the title was clinched, and they finished the year with three clear points at the top of La Liga with a goal difference twice as high as anyone else.
Even with its ludicrously high standards, Messi had a brilliant year individually. Messi ended last season as Europe’s top goal scorer, winning him his fifth European Golden Boot.
However, the form continued in 2018 and ended the year with 51 goals for the club and the country- two more than his closest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo. It means Lionel Messi ends 2018 the top of both goal and assist charts.
But more than that, Messi achieved all these goals while at the same time providing more help than anyone else in Europe.
Most assists in 2018:
– Lionel Messi= 26 assists
– Luis Suarez= 24
– Dimitri Payet = 23
– Memphis Depay = 23
– Eden Hazard = 19
– Neymar Jr = 18
– Raheem Sterling = 18
– Antoine Griezmann = 18
And now a video shows all 26 Messi’s assists in 2018-and there’s plenty of remarkable football. You can find the video below:
